What is IFSC Code ?

An IFSC or the Indian Financial System Code is an 11 digit code in alpha-numeric format used by the Reserve Bank of India to identify the various Branches of Banks within the NEFT (National Electronic Funds Transfer) network uniquely.

IFSC code is required for making inter-bank electronic funds transfer by way of identifying the source and destination banks. IFSC Code has 11 characters which are "Alpha Numeric" in nature.

First 4 characters represent the Bank, 5th character is default "0" left for future use and last 6 characters represent the branch code.
